Spin 03:45
A friend of mine is falling apart in the great Northern Hemisphere While the world spins around A friend of mine is coming undone on a floor in a room In a house made of bricks In a room with an organ and a crucifix While the world spins around While the phone rings It's more then the sun going down It's more then the sound of the trees that's breaking her heart Life's not a carnival ride, I thought it was but it's not I thought it was, I thought it was But it's not like a radio song Or a May parade It's more then the smile of hello It's more then the kiss of good-bye It's more then my sorrow and joy Am I the lamb that's asleep in the greenest of verdant fields? Am I the lamb that's asleep in the greenest of verdant fields? With the Lord over there Am I the lamb that He keeps in His sight In the rain and the sun By His blood, by His blood By His body and blood?

Firefly 04:07
Don't cry The sound you hear is just a car going by The light you see is just an aeroplane Good-night You'll wake up in the morning with the sunshine You'll wake up in the morning with the bells of the earth And hey I can say the world is beautiful Sometimes I sit up in the kitchen while the rain falls I sit up in the kitchen with my radio And hey I can say the world is beautiful Don't cry The sound you here is just a car going by The light you see is just a firefly

about

new artwork by Karen Peris

Grace and beauty can be found in the simplest of things -- a friend, a moment, a wish, a song. Such is the appeal of the Innocence Mission's five LPs, and such is the appeal of Innocence Mission guitarist Don Peris' solo debut. Ten Silver Slide Trombones marks his entry into the ranks of singer/songwriters and showcases what fans of his band know to be an unfairly overlooked talent. Whereas his earlier work frames Karen Peris' delicate voice within fully developed productions, Ten Silver Slide Trombones presents simple ideas in a simple context. Don Peris wrote, produced, and performed all 12 tracks (many of which include little more than vocals and guitar), and the results are rich and achingly beautiful. "Firefly," recorded with echoey ambience, is a peaceful moment spent watching the world out the back window. "Pennsylvania," sung in a shaky voice over an acoustic guitar, is a heartfelt invitation for a troubled friend to visit. "Anytime at All" and "Help Me Out" show with tasteful restraint -- a rarity in musicians who openly acknowledge their religious beliefs -- Peris' faith in a higher power. As a result, the occasional religious reference adds character and depth without being preachy. Obvious similarities in melody and sound exist between Ten Silver Slide Trombones and any of the Innocence Mission's releases (particularly Umbrella and Birds of My Neighborhood). A loose link can even be drawn to James Taylor or Cat Stevens in their heart-wrenching heydays. But Don Peris is a talent in his own right, worthy of praise for an inspiring solo debut. - All Music Guide
